How to Cancel an Adobe Acrobat Sign Subscription

Adobe Acrobat Sign is usually part of an Acrobat plan (Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Pro plus e-sign), so cancelling it means cancelling or changing that plan in your Adobe account. The steps take a few minutes. The part that catches people out is the contract: many Acrobat plans are annual commitments billed monthly, and cancelling mid-year can cost a fee. Here is how to cancel, what it may cost, and what to download before you go.

Step by step

  1. Export your agreements first. Download every completed agreement and its audit report from Acrobat Sign, and note any templates and web forms you use. Finish or cancel agreements still out for signature.
  2. Check your plan type and start date. In your Adobe account, open Plans and see whether you are on an annual plan billed monthly, an annual plan prepaid, or a month-to-month plan, and when it started. This decides refunds and fees.
  3. Sign in at account.adobe.com. Sign in with the Adobe ID that owns the plan. Business (team or enterprise) plans are managed by your administrator in the Admin Console instead.
  4. Open Plans and choose Manage plan. Go to Plans (or Plans and payment), find your Acrobat plan and select Manage plan, then Cancel your plan.
  5. Follow the prompts to confirm. Adobe asks for a reason and usually shows offers, such as a discount or a switch to another plan. Decline them if you want to cancel, review any fee shown, and confirm.
  6. Keep the confirmation. Save the confirmation email, and check your next statement. Plans bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play must be cancelled there, not in your Adobe account.

Will Adobe charge an early termination fee?

It depends on the plan type. According to Adobe's cancellation terms, for most plans you get a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your first purchase. On an annual plan billed monthly, cancelling after those 14 days may cost 50% of your remaining contract obligation, and your service continues until the end of that month's billing period.

Annual prepaid plans are refundable in full within 14 days; after that there is typically no refund and the service runs to the end of the term. Month-to-month plans can be cancelled any time without a fee, with access until the end of the billing month. Terms differ by country and change over time, so read the figures Adobe shows on the cancel screen before you confirm.

The cheapest moment to leave an annual plan is right at its renewal. Note the date now; Adobe also lets you turn off auto-renewal so the plan ends at the term.

What should you export before cancelling?

Download completed agreements as PDFs with their audit reports, so the signed file and its audit trail stay together. Templates, library documents and web forms do not move between services; list the ones you actually use so you can rebuild them. If you use Acrobat for editing too, keep in mind that the free Acrobat Reader still opens and signs your own PDFs after the plan ends.

Documents you already signed stay valid after you cancel. Cancelling the subscription does not undo any signature.

What if you cannot find the cancel option?

If Manage plan shows no cancel option, you are probably not the plan owner, you are on a business plan managed by an administrator, or you bought through an app store or a reseller. Admins manage team plans in the Admin Console; app store plans are cancelled in your Apple or Google account settings; for anything else, use Adobe's chat support from the help page and ask for a written confirmation.

What can you use instead of Adobe Acrobat Sign?

Decide what you actually used Adobe for. If it was editing, converting and redacting PDFs every day, another PDF suite may be the right swap. If it was sending contracts for signature, you are likely paying for a lot of PDF software you do not need.

eSignSimple accepts PDF and Word files, adds an audit trail and certificate of completion to every document, and costs $4.99/month for unlimited documents on a month-to-month plan with no annual contract; the free plan covers 5 documents a month. It does not offer advanced or qualified signatures, ID verification or native integrations, which Adobe does. Our Adobe Sign alternative page compares them honestly, best DocuSign alternatives covers the wider market, and our pricing is on one page. For signing your own files, our free Sign PDF tool is enough.

Our take

Adobe's annual-billed-monthly plan looks like a monthly plan and cancels like a yearly one. Before you click cancel, check the start date: if you are within 14 days, cancel now for a full refund; if you are months in, the 50% fee may cost more than waiting for renewal with auto-renew turned off. Either way, export first. And when you choose what comes next, pick something billed monthly so you never have to read another early termination clause.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a refund on Adobe Acrobat Sign?

Adobe states that most plans get a full refund if cancelled within 14 days of the initial purchase. After that, refunds depend on the plan type; check the cancel screen.

How much is Adobe's cancellation fee?

For annual plans billed monthly, Adobe says a fee of 50% of the remaining contract obligation may apply after the first 14 days. Month-to-month plans have no fee.

Will I lose my signed documents?

You may lose access to them in Acrobat Sign, so download them with their audit reports first. The signatures themselves remain valid.

Can I cancel Adobe Sign but keep Acrobat?

Acrobat Sign features are bundled with Acrobat plans, so you usually switch to a plan without e-sign features rather than cancel only Sign. Adobe shows switch options in Manage plan.

Is there a cheaper alternative without an annual contract?

Yes. eSignSimple Personal is $4.99/month (or $1.99/week, $39.99/year) with no annual contract and unlimited documents; see the Adobe Sign alternative comparison.
