The Best DocuSign Alternatives in 2026

DocuSign is the default name in e-signatures, and for large companies with integrations, identity checks and legal teams it often earns its price. For a freelancer or a small business sending a handful of contracts a month, it is usually more tool, and more bill, than the job needs. We have written a separate, detailed comparison for almost every serious alternative. This guide is the map: it groups them by what you actually need, gives each a one-line verdict, and links to the full page. We make eSignSimple, so we include it, and we say plainly where another tool is the better pick.

How did we judge these DocuSign alternatives?

We compared on the things that decide the bill and the daily experience: the real entry price (monthly versus billed yearly), whether there is a permanent free plan and how many documents it allows, caps on envelopes or invites, whether signers need an account, and what the tool offers beyond a simple electronic signature: SMS or ID verification, advanced (AES) or qualified (QES) signatures, integrations, SDKs and embedded signing. Prices on our comparison pages were checked in late September 2026; vendors change them often, so confirm on their site before you buy.

Start with our DocuSign alternative overview if you have not compared anything yet, and DocuSign pricing if you want to know exactly what you pay today: Personal is listed at US$11/month billed yearly, Standard at $30 and Business Pro at $45 per user per month billed yearly, with envelope limits. If you are a small team, DocuSign alternative for small business works out what a few seats really cost. Choosing between the two big incumbents? See DocuSign vs Dropbox Sign.

Which alternatives are cheapest or have a free plan?

eSignSimple (us): Free plan of 5 documents a month, Personal at $4.99/month ($1.99/week or $39.99/year) with unlimited documents for one sender, audit trail and certificate of completion on every document, signers need no account. Verdict: the cheapest flat monthly option for a single sender who needs simple electronic signatures; not for teams (Team seats are coming soon) or anyone who needs ID checks. Our free DocuSign alternative page explains what "free" really means across tools, and our pricing is on one page.

SignWell: Free plan with 3 documents a month, Light at $10/month billed yearly ($12 monthly) with unlimited documents. Verdict: very close to us; pick it if you want its template links and in-person signing on Business. See SignWell alternative.

SignNow: entry plan at $8/month billed yearly ($20 monthly), but plans list a yearly signature invite allowance. Verdict: good for several users on one plan and mobile-heavy work; watch the invite cap. See SignNow alternative.

BoldSign: a generous free Essential plan (25 envelopes a month, 2 templates) and cheap paid tiers from $5/user/month billed yearly. Verdict: strong value if you need more features and a good API; a real contender for us. See BoldSign alternative.

Zoho Sign: free for a single user with 5 envelopes a month; Standard from €10/user/month billed yearly caps envelopes at 25 per user. Verdict: the obvious choice if you already live in Zoho CRM or Zoho One. See Zoho Sign alternative.

Dropbox Sign (formerly HelloSign): Essentials at $15/month or $10.05/month billed yearly. Verdict: polished and API-friendly, better than us for embedded signing and SDKs. See Dropbox Sign alternative and, if you still know it by its old name, HelloSign alternative.

Signeasy, RightSignature and Xodo Sign: long-standing, mid-priced tools aimed at small businesses and professionals, each with its own niche (Signeasy on mobile, RightSignature for Citrix/ShareFile customers, Xodo Sign alongside the Xodo PDF apps). Verdicts and current plans are on Signeasy alternative, RightSignature alternative and Xodo Sign alternative.

What are the best alternatives for developers and open source?

DocuSeal: open source and self-hostable for free, with a Cloud Pro plan at $20/user/month and usage-priced API and embedded signing. Verdict: the pick if you want to run signing on your own server or embed it in your product. See DocuSeal alternative.

Documenso: open-source DocuSign alternative with a hosted free plan (5 documents a month) and Individual at $25/month billed yearly; Teams adds embedded signing. Verdict: great for teams who value open code and a modern API. See Documenso alternative.

eSignSimple has a REST API and webhooks on every plan, which covers sending templates from your own backend and reacting to completed documents. We do not offer SDKs, a sandbox or embedded signing, so if signing has to happen inside your app, DocuSeal, Documenso, BoldSign or Dropbox Sign fit better. Our developer API page lists what exists.

Which alternatives cover EU rules, AES and QES?

If your contracts need an advanced or qualified electronic signature under eIDAS, a simple e-signature tool like ours is the wrong choice, and we say so on every page. Look at European providers instead.

Yousign (now part of Youtrust): free for 2 signature requests a month, paid from €9/month billed yearly, with AES, SMS codes and QES priced per signature. Verdict: the most approachable EU option. See Yousign alternative.

Signaturit: similar entry prices (€9/month billed yearly) with a strong focus on regulated European businesses. See Signaturit alternative.

Skribble: a Swiss-based service built around qualified signatures under Swiss and EU law. Verdict: pick it when QES is the whole point. See Skribble alternative. For background on the legal levels, read our European Union legality page.

Should you use a PDF suite that also signs?

If you edit, convert, compress and redact PDFs every day, a PDF suite with signing built in can replace two subscriptions. If you mainly send contracts for signature, you pay for tools you do not use.

Adobe Acrobat Sign: bundled with Acrobat plans from US$14.99/month on an annual plan billed monthly. Verdict: worth it if you already need Acrobat Pro; expensive for signatures alone. See Adobe Sign alternative, and if you are leaving, how to cancel an Adobe Sign subscription.

Smallpdf (signing via Sign.com, 2 documents a month on a free account) and iLovePDF (iLoveSign; Premium from $4/month billed yearly with unlimited signature requests and a few AES): cheap and handy for occasional use. See Smallpdf alternative and iLovePDF alternative.

Foxit eSign, Nitro Sign, pdfFiller and DocHub: PDF-first tools where signing comes with editing. Foxit and Nitro target businesses moving off Acrobat; pdfFiller and DocHub are popular for filling forms. Verdicts are on Foxit eSign alternative, Nitro Sign alternative, pdfFiller alternative and DocHub alternative.

Jotform Sign: the forms platform with signing; free Starter allows 10 signed documents a month, Bronze starts at $34/month billed yearly. Verdict: great if you already collect data with Jotform. See Jotform Sign alternative.

Box Sign: included with many Box plans. Verdict: if your company stores everything in Box, try it before paying for anything else. See Box Sign alternative.

What about contract management platforms?

Some teams do not want a signing tool at all; they want to write, negotiate, approve and track contracts in one place.

PandaDoc: proposals, quotes and signing, with a free plan (5 documents a month) and Starter at $19/seat/month billed yearly. Verdict: the right choice for sales teams that build quotes; overkill for signing PDFs. See PandaDoc alternative.

Oneflow: a contract platform with live, editable contracts and approval flows, aimed at growing companies. Verdict: pick it for contract lifecycle work, not for occasional signatures. See Oneflow alternative.

Our take

Most people searching for a DocuSign alternative do not need a different enterprise platform; they need to stop paying for one. Count the documents you sent in the last three months. If it is under five a month, start on a free plan (ours, Zoho Sign's, BoldSign's or Documenso's). If you send more, pick a flat price with no envelope cap: that is where eSignSimple at $4.99/month is strongest. Move to BoldSign, Dropbox Sign or DocuSeal if you need embedded signing or SDKs, to Yousign or Skribble if you need AES or QES, and stay with DocuSign if integrations and identity verification are central to your business. There is no shame in the incumbent when you use what you pay for.
